Who Wants To Rock Their Photoshoot??

Who Wants To Rock Their Photoshoot??

I DO! I DO!

Sooo… you’ve booked your photoshoot, or are in the process of booking a photoshoot, you want to rock your photoshoot, don’t you? Don’t worry, you’re not alone! No one goes into a paid photoshoot thinking, “I want to look horrible in these and not like any of them!” even if we do go into them a bit anxious! At the very least we hope to look decent (and secretly pray that we look great and love them)! Well, here are a five little tips from the ones I love to give my clients to help them rock their photoshoots! Sharing is caring! :)

1. OUTFIT CHOICES MATTER!

Even if the shoot only allows one or two outfits, it’s smart to bring a couple of choices on set! Why? Sometimes certain outfits look best with certain locations, and the local color! Also, sometimes we need a little help seeing what works best in photos, and as a photographer, I can definitely help you choose what works best! ;)

I suggest bringing different styles also. Like a dress or skirt option and a jean/leggings option for girls! It allows for more versatile poses! For guys, sometimes different prints/button-ups/jacket and shirt combinations! I also suggest bringing both patterned clothes and solids!

**Just make sure that whatever you are wearing is something that you are comfortable in and something that you love! We look best in photos when we feel our best! Only bring options that you would love! :)

(AND FOR YOU GETTING-MARRIED FOLK)

It’s good to also consider what people are wearing during “getting ready” photos! Whether it’s asking your bridesmaids and groomsmen to wear a color, or a special shirt, or a certain outfit, or you wearing a special jacket or robe, these things help make your portraits come out extra spectacular! :) It’s also a really good idea to have all your bridesmaids or groomsmen ready before you, so that when a photographer photographs you getting ready, the attention is focused more on you, rather than the different outfits and colors around you! :)

2. COUPLE OUTFITS ARE ALSO IMPORTANT!

Couples often times like to match during their photoshoots! And that is great! :) But something that helps engagement photos (and even family photos), is when a couple wears complimenting colors, or different shades of a color, rather than the exact same color!  It allows for a more natural photo session, rather than one that looked almost “too planned”! :)

3. DETAILS & PROPS ARE FUN

I personally love prop use! I love details and personal props that help add character to the person, or people I am photographing! Whether it’s your jewelry, or hair accessories, or hat, or tie, or shoes, or an instrument, details and props are always great things to consider to help make your photos personalized to you. :)

4. BRING ON THOSE NATURAL SMILES!

This is a general tip, which can be used during any type of photo: To get a “fresh” and more natural smile instead of that fake false, forced smile, I like to tell my clients to look down and rest their faces (whether it’s making it straight, or making a silly face like I do), and then I have them look up and show me their pearly whites (or best smile) right before I snap the photo! I love the expression because it’s a little more natural! I also suggest doing a forced laugh before a photo. Even if it sounds awful, and feels funny, doing that fake “hah!” can produce some pretty natural outcomes! :)

5. BE COMFORTABLE

Like I had mentioned before in a previous post, make sure you feel comfortable with the photographer you hire! What separates photographers from one another is both their capture and editing style, and their personalities (after all, we’re not all just robots with cameras!). Find one that has all three things that you personally love! :) Nothing makes a photoshoot ROCK more than a comfortable client! :) Even if you hate taking photographs, if you are comfortable with someone and they are able to coach you into poses, and feel more natural, I promise, your photos will come out 100% better than if you aren’t comfortable with them!

More often than not, I’ve had clients that feel like deer caught in the headlights whenever they’re in front of a camera (and I totally relate to that)! So if you’re one of those who stay away from a camera, don’t feel like you’re alone, and know that you, too, can rock your photo session!  Part of what makes me love my job as a photographer, is being able to make my clients laugh and enjoy themselves! And that’s when feel you look best! Don’t be shy! Laugh a little! :) Candid smiles and laughs that come out of poses can turn out quite amazingly! :)
