As we get older, we find that head shots become more and more needed for portfolio building and social networking (which now-a-days can also be used as an informal resume). As for me, I realized I should update my About Me section since my previous photograph was from about two years ago! Although I don’t look EXTREMELY different, I figured it would be nice to change it up and show you all something new!

Let me begin with saying, I am not the type of person who is automatically comfortable in front of a camera. My typical picture with friends (or with food) is always a crazy ridiculous face. I used to always just smile (most people’s defaults), but as I went through a time where I absolutely hated how I looked in pictures, I decided that making ugly faces purposely would make things okay. I mean, if you mean for it to look ugly or ridiculous then it’s okay if it does… whereas often times I’d try to just smile and look normal and the photo would end up… not-so-normal. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person who has that reasoning… right? Haha

Bearing this in mind, I love to be behind the camera. :) I know how awkward it can be being in front of it… and how urges of sticking your tongue out or cringing your nose have to be locked and under control for serious portraits–I am a professional at being awkward in pictures–so I know how important it is to feel comfortable in front of one, and how much affirmation you might need to get them done! I’m pretty sure most people getting their photos done for engagements or senior portraits aren’t used to having a huge camera in their face and having the pressure of a ton of people seeing these photos printed or highlighted during a big day (Facebook photos are one thing, but I think getting professional photos has a whole other element of intimidation). If you’re confident in front of the camera and just a natural model, then dang! Lucky you! Haha I wish I could. But if you’re not, I totally understand you! :)

Anyhow. In attempts of trying to get a new photo taken for my profile and my LinkedIn, my friend John and I decided to have a super mini photo shoot to get a few portraits to update our portfolios at the Botanical Gardens at the University of California, Riverside. John is a graphic designer! You can view his work at his website, www.JohnKwok.com.

Of course, I am posting only the decent photos that actually ended up being presentable. But let me tell you, poor John had to take quite a few shots, since “relax your face” is equivalent to cross your eyes and do something ugly with your mouth in my eyes. HAH!

Here are a few from the mini-shoot. :) You can view more on my Flickr.

& Now here are the ones from my end. Definitely not as many. Haha :)

Just to show you a glimpse of the craziness that went on in between the “good shots.”

If I can do it, YOU can do it! & Don’t worry, I’ll help you! ;)

Happy Tuesday!!
